Privacy Policy

Essay drafts you submit. When you paste an essay into our evaluator, the text is transmitted to our servers and, through our platform's AI gateway, to our artificial intelligence provider solely to generate your evaluation. We do not store your essay. Your draft is processed transiently and is not saved to our databases, associated with your identity, or used to train any AI model by us. See Section 3 for how our AI provider handles this data.

Your email address. If you choose to unlock a detailed breakdown of your evaluation, we ask for your email address. We store it along with the date of submission and the feature you used. Providing your email is optional, the free evaluation does not require it.

Draft text saved on your own device. To protect you from losing your work if the page refreshes, your essay draft is temporarily saved in your browser's session storage. This data stays on your device, is never transmitted to us for storage, and is automatically deleted when you close your browser tab.

Purchase information. If you buy one of our paid products, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number. We receive your email, the product purchased, and transaction confirmation.

Automatically collected information. We do not use third-party analytics, advertising trackers, or session-recording tools. Our hosting infrastructure may collect standard technical data (such as IP address and browser type) in server logs, and our development platform (Lovable) receives basic error reports if something breaks, the page where the error occurred and its severity, not your essay or personal details. Our site also loads fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser sends a standard request (including your IP address) to Google's servers to deliver the font files.

Information we do NOT collect. We do not ask for or knowingly collect your full name, date of birth, school name, phone number, mailing address, or any government identifiers through the essay evaluator. We ask that you not include this information in the essays you submit.

We use the information described above to:

• Generate your essay evaluation and detailed breakdown
• Send you the content you requested and, if you consent, occasional emails about our products and college admissions guidance (you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email)
• Process purchases and provide customer support
• Understand aggregate usage of the Service so we can improve it
• Protect the Service against fraud, abuse, and security threats
• Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information. We also do not "share" your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we do not engage in targeted advertising, profiling for automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects, or the sale of personal information under any other state privacy law.

Your essay is evaluated by an artificial intelligence model (Google Gemini), accessed through our development platform's AI gateway (Lovable). Your essay text passes through this gateway on a pass-through basis, it is not stored by the gateway, and is transmitted to Google solely to generate your evaluation, where it is handled under Google's applicable API data policies, which may include temporary logging for abuse and safety monitoring. We do not store your essay on our systems after your evaluation is generated, and we do not use it to train any AI model.

Important note on personal information. While we do not store your essay, the evaluator is an automated tool that transmits your text to the providers described above. To protect your privacy, we encourage you to remove personally identifiable details, such as your full name, home address, phone number, or school name, from your draft before submitting it.

We also use service providers to operate the Service. These providers process information on our behalf and only to provide services to us:

• AI processing: Google (Gemini), accessed via the Lovable AI gateway
• Hosting and backend infrastructure (including our email leads database): Lovable Cloud, which runs on Supabase infrastructure
• Error monitoring: Lovable (receives basic error reports, page, error type, and severity, to help us fix problems)
• Fonts: Google Fonts (font files are delivered from Google's servers)
• Email delivery: Google (Gmail / Google Workspace)
• Payment processing: Stripe

The Service is intended for users 13 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and the Service is not directed to children under 13 within the meaning of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you are under 13, do not use the Service or submit any information to us. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact us at hello@underdogadmissions.com.

If you are between 13 and 18, we encourage you to involve a parent or guardian in your use of the Service, and we recommend reviewing this policy together. A parent or guardian may contact us at any time to request deletion of their child's email address, and we will not condition access to the free evaluator on providing personal information.

Unsubscribe. Every marketing email we send includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing stops marketing emails; we may still send transactional messages related to a purchase.

Access, correction, and deletion. You (or your parent or guardian, if you are a minor) may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it by emailing hello@underdogadmissions.com. Because we do not store essays, deletion requests generally apply to your email address and any purchase records (some purchase records may be retained where required by law). We will respond within 30 days and will not discriminate against you for exercising any privacy right.

Cookies and tracking. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies. The Service uses only what is strictly necessary to function, including your browser's session storage to hold your draft on your own device. You can clear your browser's session storage at any time to remove any locally saved draft, and we honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where applicable.

State and regional privacy rights. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state privacy laws (such as California, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Virginia, and Texas) or under the EU or UK General Data Protection Regulation, including the right to know, access, correct, delete, port, or restrict processing of your personal information, and the right to opt out of certain data sharing or profiling. We honor these requests for all users regardless of location. Where GDPR applies, our legal bases are your consent (for marketing emails), the performance of a contract (to deliver a paid product), and our legitimate interests (to operate, secure, and improve the Service). To exercise any right, contact us at hello@underdogadmissions.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

• Essays: not stored; processed transiently and discarded after your evaluation is generated.
• Email addresses: retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion, or until we no longer need them for the purposes described above.
• Purchase records: retained as required for tax, accounting, and legal purposes (typically up to 7 years).
• Server logs and error reports: retained for a limited period for security, debugging, and abuse prevention, then deleted or aggregated.

We use commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we hold, including encrypted transmission (HTTPS), encryption at rest for our leads database, and access controls limiting staff access to personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we learn of a security incident affecting your personal information, we will notify affected users as required by applicable law.

The Service is operated from the United States. If you use it from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your location. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses for such transfers.

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice on the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
